植感台灣│Living with Nature

越靠近土地，越長得像自己。

在台灣，器物從不只是物件。很多時候，它們是某種生活的延續，是一段和自然共同呼吸的過程。

祖先從山林、海邊學習，用植物造屋、織布、儲物、育食。這些素材不是被選擇來使用，而是從生活中長出來的。

我們從檳榔葉鞘開始。這種會自然掉落的葉片，本就蘊含著再生的特性。經過清洗、晾曬、彎折與定型，變成可以承載日常的容器。

但這次的展覽，並不只是一種素材的故事。

我們邀請了其他部落的工藝者與創作者，以月桃、輪閃草、香蕉絲、漂流木等素材共同參與，把那些曾經日常的植物，重新轉化為今日依然能被使用的模樣。

這不是一場大型展覽，而是在城市的一個角落，慢慢展開的對話。

這場展覽於 2019 年夏秋之際舉辦，地點在台北的 Home Hotel 大安。我們以「自然素材」為主題進行策展，讓葉鞘與漂木、月桃在這間城市飯店中並陳對話，讓材料的聲音、工藝者的手感與土地的節奏交會在一個靜謐空間裡。

對我們而言，葉鞘的工藝雖已有雛形，但許多彎折與成形的細節仍在反覆練習中。

那是一段與素材磨合的過程，也是一段學著聽懂自然語言的旅程。

希望透過「植感台灣」主題將自然素材轉譯創作的風貌，讓更多人認識充滿創意部落植物生命力。

土地に近づけば近づくほど、人は自分らしくなっていく。

台湾では、器はただの「モノ」ではありません。それは生活の延長であり、自然と共に呼吸するリズムそのものです。

祖先たちは山や海から学び、植物で家を建て、布を織り、物を収め、食を育てました。それらの素材は選ばれたのではなく、日常の中から自然に育まれたものです。

私たちは檳榔（ビンロウ）の葉鞘から始めました。自然に落ちるこの葉には、再生という意味が最初から宿っています。洗浄、乾燥、折り曲げ、形を整える──そうして日常の中で使える器へと姿を変えていきました。

けれど今回の展示は、一つの素材だけを語るものではありません。

私たちは、月桃、輪傘草、バナナ繊維、流木などを素材とする他の部落の作り手たちを招き、かつて日常だった植物たちを、今でも使えるかたちとして再び命を吹き込みました。

これは大規模な展示ではありません。都市の一角で、静かに始まる対話のような場でした。

展示は2019年の夏から秋にかけて、台北・Home Hotel Da-Anで開催されました。「自然素材」をテーマに、葉鞘、流木、月桃が一つの空間に並び、素材の声、手の感触、土地のリズムが、静かに交差する展示となりました。

当時の私たちは、すでに葉鞘の基本的なかたちを見出していましたが、細かな折り方や成形には、まだ多くの試行錯誤が必要でした。それは素材と向き合い、自然の言葉に耳を澄ますための旅のようなものでした。

The closer to the land, the clearer we become.

In Taiwan, an object is never just a thing.It is often an extension of life —a quiet rhythm shared with nature.

Our ancestors learned from the mountains and the sea.They built homes, wove cloth, stored goods, and grew food using plants.These materials weren’t chosen;they simply emerged from living closely with the land.

We began with areca sheaths —a material that falls naturally, already carrying the idea of renewal.Washed, dried, folded and shaped,they became vessels for daily use.

But this exhibition was never just about one material.

We invited other Indigenous makers and creatorsto join us with works made from pandanus, banana fiber, driftwood, and wild ginger.These were once everyday plants —now reimagined into forms that still belong in daily life.

This was not a large exhibition.It was a quiet conversation unfolding in a corner of the city.

Living with Nature was held from summer into fall 2019at the lobby of HOME Hotel Da-An in Taipei.We curated the space around natural materials,letting areca sheaths, ginger leaves, and driftwood speak side by side —their textures, rhythms, and gestures meeting in one still space.

At the time, we had already developed early forms for areca craft,but many details — folding, shaping, refining — were still being practiced.It was a process of working with the material,and a way of slowly learning to hear the language of nature.
